$4,800.00
Rare 12 pink antique Minton soup plates.
Embellished with embossed neoclassic gilt designs. Gilded Age.
Manufactured for Davis and Collomore from 1820 to 1888.
This company rivaled Tiffany and Co. during this period.
The firm commissioned designs by Spode and Minton, which preferred hand-painted details over transfer-printed outlines. Heavy, rich gilding was also a choice.
These soup plates represent all these elements in their design choices.
HISTORY:
Thomas Minton (1765-1836)
Thomas Minton moved to Stoke, England in 1793 and opened his newly built factory in 1796--
He went on to become Spode's nearest rival.
The Minton factory was the most popular supply source in the 19th century of dinnerware made to order for embassies and heads of state. The name continues to the present day as part of the Waterford,
Wedgwood and Royal Doulton Group.
In the 1820s, Thomas Minton started producing bone china; this early Minton is regarded as comparable to French Sevres.
