Offered is a rare botanical antique dessert set.
8 Samuel Alcock dessert plates feature a soft aqua ground with hand-painted spring florals.
A serving dish is also a part of this rare set.
Though unmarked, the set is attributed to Samuel Alcock, who manufactured pottery and porcelain from 1822 to 1859.
The design is finished off with scalloped, gilded rims.
The quality of the craftsmanship is prominent.
Family heirloom.
HISTORY:
The Alcock bone china body is of good quality, well-potted, and very richly decorated.
In 1833, the factory employed more than 400 people, and its 20 Kilns equaled those used by Minton.
Most of their porcelains between 1830 and 1840 are unmarked.
This is why the firm is so little known and often mistaken for Rockingham or Coalport.
The quality is there --but often not the maker's mark. There is a pattern number.
These numbers quickly increased, and a fractional pattern number was introduced, i.e., 1/1234.
This numbering system is shown on these plates.
