$600.00
A charming dessert set featuring four antique Grainger Worcester dessert plates and one cake stand is offered.
The border on all pieces is a pretty-in-pink shade with gilded-scalloped rims and a center garland of hand-painted florals.
This set was manufactured during the time when impressed marks were used often.
The impressed manufacturer's mark dates them sometime during the early 1800s, and Worcester manufactured them.
MEASUREMENTS:
The plates measure about 9 1/2 inches and are heavy.
The cake stand is 6 inches tall.
HISTORY:
Thomas Grainger and Company began manufacturing porcelain in 1806 to supply the lower end of the market.
They were one of three porcelain makers for Worcester and continued production until 1902.
After their beginning, they soon became the competition for Chamberlain, Barr, and Flight and Barr porcelain makers at Worcester.
The quality and skill of Grainger's craftsmanship are evident in the plates listed.
CONDITION:
This dessert set is in excellent condition.
The pink color is quite beautiful.
Truly a find.
Porcelain manufactured during the mid-1800s will have acquired some minor imperfections.
This set has been used primarily for display.
