$3,000.00
A rare Royal Worcester botanical china set.
Includes 12 dinner plates, 6 salad plates,
Bonus 8 teacup sets of the same period
Each piece is hand-painted in a different botanical pattern.
Since many times the matching teacups do not survive, I am including various antique English teacups that approximate the time period and design of the plates as a bonus to this listing.
Check the photos to see how well they can blend.
MEASUREMENTS:
The dinner plate measures 10 1/2 inches.
The dessert plate measures 8 1/4 inches
HISTORY:
The standard printed factory mark included the number 51 in the center which refers to the year 1751 when the Worcester Porcelain Company was founded by Dr. John Wall. The mark can appear in any color and on a variety of materials.
The marks almost always included a code to indicate the year of manufacture. From 1891 pieces were coded with a system of dots and/or symbols with the addition of the words "Royal Worcester England"
These dinner plates are marked with Royal Worcester Vitreous from the late 1800s.
Vitreous china features an enamel coating that is applied to ceramics particularly porcelain to make the product stronger, shinier, and resistant to stains.
These plates are denser and heavier. The hand-painted florals are in excellent condition with colors still vibrant. They have a pattern number of W 4160.
The salad plates were made a little bit later, around 1897. They have a scalloped edge and the same floral patterns as the dinner plates, although each plate has a different pattern.
