Offered are two rare Chamberlain & Co serving pieces.
The border is in the stunning celeste blue, surrounded by molded scalloped rims in gilding.
The rectangular pieces is adorned with elaborately gilded handles and gadrooned scalloped rims.
Gilding is applied lavishly and on the center medallion.
This rare set has a timeless quality.
Use in formal settings and display in your china cabinet or on your side board.
Family heirloom.
MEASUREMENTS:
The oval piece measures 10 X 12 inches.
The rectangular piece with the handles measures 9 1/2 X 13 5/8 inches handle to handle.
HISTORY:
Chamberlain sld porcelain through his shop at no.33 Worcester High Street and through china and fancy goods dealers in other large towns. In 1813 Chamberlain opened a London showroom at 63 Piccadilly, moving to 155 New Bond Street in 1816.
Customers would choose the decoration for individual "cabinet" pieces. Views of country houses and figure subjects taken from prints of well-known paintings were very fashionable.
The factory built up a large library of source material for the artists to work from.
In the19th century the East India Company shipped many goods to Britons living abroad. Chamberlain exported large quantities of porcelain to India and theThe order include over 7,00 items. services ordered in 1817 for the East India Co.headquarters at Fort St. George, Madras were the largest ever made at Worcester.
The 1840s were a decade of great change at the Worcester factories. The former rivals, Chamberlain & Flight, Barr & Barr joined forces under the name of Chamberlain & Company in 1840.
The Chamberlain's quality and skill of craftsmanship are evident in the serving plates listed.
CONDITION:
The platters are in excellent antique condition.
There are no, chips, cracks or crazing.
Of course age-related issue may ve present but the is to be expected in procain of this age.
